BOILING HOT, BOILING WATER, BOILING MAD

In summer you expect boiling hot-- when it gets toasty up at Serene Lakes, at least there's some nice cool lakes to gaze at, and a quick jump off the swimming float is a good way to cool down. Best of all, you can turn on your tap, and run a glass of cool, pure water.

Down the road at Big Bend, just below Rainbow Lodge, the cabin owners don't have it so good. Those big boulders get pretty warm, and if they want a drink of water, they have to boil it first, as their wells have gone bad. Funny thing about those wells- if the spring Royal Gorge LLC captures water from was allowed to flow naturally down the hill, there's probably a good chance of well recharge, although a hydrological study would be needed to confirm that.

Royal Gorge LLC wasn't willing to commit to a paltry supply of water to help out those homeowners-- their spokesman Mike Livak has explained that they want to keep their options open, and didn't want to get involved in anything long term. Annoying how being a good neighbor is a long term commitment, isn't it?

If Royal Gorge LLC hangs on to those Rainbow Holding Company water rights (wonder how secure they'd be if Big Bend laid a complaint with the State Water Resource Control Board?), they apparently believe they can pump the water up to the Summit, or, perhaps, trade the rights to PG and E for some of PG and E's rights up at the top (which would mean raising the Van Norden Dam)

Here's a picture to make you boiling mad-- pure drinking water used to fill the trucks watering down the freeway.

It's going to be a long, hot Summer.
