DEVELOP-AWATHA

Part One

By the shores of Lakes Serena,

Lakes Serena and Dulzura,

Stood Kirk Syme and stood some Fosters ,

Todd, Mark and maybe others,

Stood looking at the waters,

As they rippled there below them.

The lakes so full of water,

And the streams so full of fishes,

Could serve so many condos,

And bring us so much riches,

So said Syme and so said Foster,

And maybe some investors.

Forth to the ridges straight away,

Up the mountains to the topmost,

Oh the viewshed is to die for,

Here we'll build a biggish restaurant,

See the North Fork of the River,

See the mighty dollars flowing.

The trees, why we'll just cut them,

For the skiers and the ski lifts,

For the parking, for the roadways,

For the condos and the time-shares,

For the dollars green and growing,

And the shares that we'll be selling,

Yes cut the trees,  'cause we don't care.

Down to the meadow let us wander,

To the lush Van Norden Meadow,

This water we can't squander,

So let's rebuild the dam.

Take the small South Yuba's water,

Take the water from the river,

Use the water for our time-shares,

We'll watch the money flow.

And the sewage we'll just flush it,

Yes the murky, murky sewage,

We'll send it down the river,

Yes the stinky little Yuba,

We'll pour it down the river,

And we'll spray it on the hill.*

This land is ours to trample,

Yes this land is ours to ravage,

The trees and rocks around us,

The mountains wild and savage,

Are to us just so much money,

Money that's for growing,

Dollars like a river flowing,

Take the money and just run.

*treated effluent is actually sprayed on Soda Springs Ski hill during months when the South Yuba's flow is low in order to protect water quality. 1,010 more dwelling units may overburden this disposal system.
